In this course

Follow a fictional transit-operations view from source and query through frame, transformation, visualization, alerting, and sharing. The course emphasizes population, time, unit, identity, and missing data, explaining why a polished display cannot establish source correctness, access isolation, or notification delivery.

Each level contains six complete lessons with explained examples, diagnostic mistakes, worked exercises, and official references. Python programs use only local synthetic values, JSON, and pure calculations. Every platform fragment is non-executable; no Grafana, account, source, query, or actual alert is accessed.

What you will learn

  • Interpret source, query, frame, transformation, and display responsibilities with explicit scope, time, and units.
  • Review variables, joins, overrides, JSON, provisioning, alerting, and notifications without conflating execution contracts.
  • Distinguish OSS, Enterprise, Cloud, plugin, authentication, and access capabilities while reporting tested evidence limits honestly.

Who this is for

  • Developers, operations and platform engineers, and learners designing Grafana views or reviewing their meaning and configuration.
  • Teams seeking clear measurement, access, and alert contracts with edition, plugin, cost, and privacy review.

Before you start

  • Basic requests, services, and tabular-data concepts; JSON and monitoring familiarity helps but Grafana administration is unnecessary.
  • Basic Python reading is sufficient for fixtures, with no account, service, data source, or dependency installation required.
